Why Dive with Us?

Mikumba Diving has been running liveaboard trips in Komodo and Raja Ampat since 2018.

We have a very experienced boat crew and fantastic dive guides on our boats.

Jelajahi Laut is less than two years old, she’s our luxurious mid range liveaboard that cruises through both Raja Ampat and Komodo National Park, as well as crossing between these 2 places via Alor, Ambon and the Banda Sea, covering the best diving in Indonesia.

Nusantara is our budget safari boat, she spends the whole year in Komodo, and was completely renovated in 2021.

Between our boats we suit every budget, from backpackers who want to sleep on deck to those who want more comfort with their dive adventures, in a luxury Sea View cabin with a private balcony!

My friend and I did a 4D3N liveaboard on the Jelajahi Laut around the Komodo area and we’re thoroughly impressed by our experience with Mikumba Diving. The Cruise Director (CD) for the trip was Eric, who was assisted by Camille. The CDs were friendly, outgoing, and kept the atmosphere cheerful and lively at all times. They also knew the area well. Along with the rest of the staff, they took us on 12 amazing dives across Komodo over the course of our stay. We took the opportunity to clear our PADI Advanced Open Water certification. Eric (who was our course instructor) was knowledgeable and professional in guiding us through the course. The dive sites we visited were stunning, dense with vibrant coral and abundant with sea-life. In short order, we saw sharks, turtles, and even dove with manta rays. As novice divers, these dives have set the bar extremely high for our future dives. We were also able to go ashore for short hikes to see Komodo dragons and to catch a beautiful sunset from a hilltop. The Jelajahi Laut herself is beautiful and well-maintained. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The crew were also all very friendly and accommodating. Food on board the ship was great. The galley chefs kept us well-fed between dives with delicious food throughout the day. Overall, our trip was an unforgettable experience and the entire package was excellent value for the price. We can’t wait to come back again!

I did a 4D/3N trip on the Jelajahi Laut and had a fantastic experience! 12 dives, a trek with the Komodo dragons, and a sunset hike complete with outstanding food and very comfortable rooms. With an emphasis on safety and comfort, the guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and found exciting things for us to view and experience under the waves. Thanks to the entire crew for such a great trip!

Did 3N4D Komodo trip on the Laut. This was my fourth liveaboard in SE Asia. PROS: - Amazing dive sites! Some quite challenging, good to develop new skills. - They offer courses like PADI advanced and nitrox onboard. - Saw some incredible sea life including sharks, turtles, manta rays etc. - The dive guides are exceptional: patient, supportive and knowledgeable! They also cater dives to personal experience and confidence. They all put safety first. Shoutout to Soleman who is just amazing!!! - The briefings were detailed and realistic, highlighting exactly what we would experience before each dive. - The bedrooms are incredible - clean, spacious, plenty of storage. - There are excursion options - Komodo dragon visit, sunset hike, beach visit. - The crew help get everything ready so prepping for dives is fast and seamless. - Schedules are communicated clearly each day so you know exactly what you are doing when. If there is any change in plan the guides explain exactly why. CONS: - Some of the equipment needs attention - holes in wetsuits, broken flippers. - Would be great to offer camera / GoPro rental like other liveaboards do for those who don’t have underwater cameras. - Hotel pick up / drop off would put company in line with others at same price point. - Unfortunately the food is hit and miss. It is served restaurant style, which could be changed to family style service with dishes brought out for people to share. Very little protein ratio in meals. Couple of guests grumbled about this. One prawn salad had a single tiny prawn in the whole dish. Compared to other liveaboards options are quite limited and not a lot of variety and the quality just isn’t that great. Now the biggest con: On the last day briefing guests are asked to contribute 10-20% tip to pay for the staff and crew wages as they survive off tips, like America, similar to bartenders and waiters. I completely understand that this must be very difficult, however, after paying over $3000 (including dive insurance and equipment rental) for this trip, to be told that little of it goes to the staff? That’s bad marketing. It should be stated when you book the trip. I saved up to do this liveaboard and certainly can’t afford to drop a $300-$600 tip on a whim, especially when you are informed on the last day, 5 hours before arrival back on land. That’s not fair on guests who have already paid a lot of money to learn at the last moment that the staff are not paid enough. I thought the crew and staff were brilliant, but I can’t drop $300-$600 on a moments notice. This liveaboard should be advertised as (price +20%). It’s irresponsible. If it’s a case of ‘please contribute what you can to show your appreciation’ then of course, I will give whatever I can to say thank you. But I am now leaving this trip feeling like these amazing crew did not get their fair share from their guests because I could not afford the tip as the expectation is not communicated from the start about how much the tip should be. A wonderful experience all in all. The diving was exceptional- 12 dives in 4 days and some truly amazing moments.. We paid for the sea view large cabin which was amazing. The crew were lovely and my dive guide in particular was amazing- Cam- as I’m not a confident diver. The food was inconsistent- at times very good, at others not. Hidden costs such as renting a dive computer and air tanks each day, along with having to pay for transfers to and from the harbour added up- would have expected that to be included, particularly as the cost of the liveaboard was already at the high end. But, all in all, excellent!

Great company! Staff are knowledgeable and respectful of the ecosystems of Komodo Natl. Park & that reflected onto everyone's enjoyment of the trip. Boat was clean, well equipped, and crew was awesome & knew the waters well.

We had an incredible time with Mikumba Diving on the Nusantara (3D2N)! I highly recommend. The staff was super friendly and accommodating, making our experience truly memorable. The food was top-notch too, delicious and satisfying after each dive. The visit to Komodo Island was a dream come true, and we were lucky to spot 5 Komodo dragons! As of the dive sites, they were mind-blowing, with an abundance of sharks, turtles, and manta rays to marvel at. The whole package offered great value for the price. We absolutely loved sleeping on the deck. A truly unforgettable adventure! Thanks again Salla, Hans, Yanti and the rest of the staff

Just completed a 6D5N trip in Komodo on board the beautiful Jelajahi Laut. The dive guides were very experienced and good spotters. The rooms were extremely clean and tidy, staff tidy up the room everyday, and they were very friendly and accommodating to my requests. The hot showers, clean water tub right after you get on board after a dive, and a shower area right after going on board the boat to rinse off the salt were extremely thoughtful. Normally LOBs would have an extremely loud compressor for the air tanks but the boat didn't as the compressor was below deck. Aircon was cold and the bed sheets and blanket were extremely clean. The dive equipment were very very new and in good condition. Had nitrox on board. Saw the milky way on one of the nights! Overall I'd give it a 10/10 11/10 would go again

The 4D/3N liveaboard stay on Jelajahi Laut is an amazing experience. The crew are wonderful people and very experienced - thank you Phenomenal diving and equipment was all top notch. The twin/single bedroom was the perfect size for two people. However, I spent most of my time in the lovely communal areas between dives and in the evenings. The food was incredible, Komodo dragon viewing on Rinca was epic, beautiful sunrise/sunsets and I just feel like a massive fan girl so I’m going to stop now. Just book a trip with Mikumba!

Wonderful week on Jelajahi Laut! Amazing diving, crew, knowledgeable dive guides and instructors, and great food. Beds were comfortable and enough space to stow belongings during the trip. A few shore excursions were a nice break from the incredible dives! Would highly recommend booking a trip with them!

We absolutely loved our time on the Nusantara! The team was phenomenal, always making us feel safe and comfortable while still having so much fun. This was my first live aboard and it was great having a guide on all the dives. The dive sites were amazing! Go with Mikumba if you’re looking for a great company with a more affordable option for your live aboard experience

I went on a liveaboard on the Nusantara through Mikumba dive shop. Had an amazing experience. Can't recommend it enough. Our dive masters - Hans, Irland and Salla - were all extremely professional and attune to our needs and wants, and the social atmosphere aboard the boat was incredible. The facilities and food were also excellent given the price. I highly recommend sleeping on the deck. The whole experience was definitely one of the highlights of my trip.

A GREAT DIVING EXPERIENCE IN KOMODO I had a fantastic time diving with Mikumba in Komodo. Our Cruise Director and dive masters were experienced and knowledgeable, and they could spot all sorts of marine life, from micro creatures to manta rays, sharks, and turtles. The crews were also patient and safety-conscious, ensuring we all had a great time on our dives. I was on the Nusantara Liveaboard for 4d/3n. I had a great time. It's a small, cozy but comfortable boat. The diving equiptment was in good shape. There was an advanced course on the boat while I was there and I've never seen such a well taught and thorough course yet. I wish i had taken mine there aswell. The boat crew was super nice and the chef took great care of us. If you like diving and eating and diving look no further.

Fantastic Liveaboard with outstanding staff

Incredible coral and sea life, dives were not only beautiful but diverse with a night dive and some exciting current dives. We dove with our children for the first time and the lead dive guide was able to make us all comfortable and safe. The food was very good and plentiful, and the views from our on board room were unforgettable.
