Couples planning a romantic escape to Komodo National Park in east Nusa Tenggara can look forward to unforgettable moments on one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, the Pink Beach on Komodo Island when when they join the Mikumba 4-Day Komodo Liveaboard trip, from October to March aboard Nusantara.
The Komodo National Park is not just home to the impressive and fearsome Komodo Dragons. Here, you’ll find some of the most spectacular landscapes, dazzling views, magical sunrise and sunsets and incredible wildlife encounters both above and underwater.
A definite must-do is the Pink Beach on Komodo Island, one of the three main islands that make up the Komodo National Park alongside Padar and Rinca and 26 other smaller islands. Needless to say, Pink Beach is a favourite with our customers, so let’s take a look at what you can expect when you head there on your romantic escape with Mikumba.
The Pink Beach On Komodo Island
Before heading to the romantic Pink Beach with your loved one, let’s take a look at some interesting facts about Komodo’s famous ‘Pantai Merah’ which translates to ‘Red Beach’ as it is called by the locals.
The Pink Beach is 700 feet or 213 metres long and is nestled in a bay underneath Komodo Island’s rolling, rugged hills. The glimmering pink sand and dazzling turquoise water set against the green of the hills create a picture-perfect scenery that is quite unlike anything you’ve ever seen!
Some people may be wondering, are pink beaches rare? There are only seven pink beaches in the world, and one of them is right here in Indonesia at the Komodo National Park. So what makes Pink Beach pink? This unusual but beautiful phenomenon is thanks to tiny little microscopic animals that live in the sand, called Foraminifera. This single-celled planktonic organism leaves behind a red pigment that mixes with the white sand to create this beautiful beach with a rosy pink hue, the colour of love.
The waters off Komodo Island’s Pink Beach are excellent for snorkelling, filled with 260 species of soft and hard coral, 70 species of sponges and hundreds of different types of tropical fish all so close to shore. The water is calm, shallow and crystal clear, which makes it ideal for both snorkelling and even diving. You can also enjoy some kayaking with your loved one while you’re there or just relax, swim and soak up the sun.
The Pink Beach is an epic photography location, perfect for couples in love to take pictures together and coveted by photography enthusiasts from all around the world with a landscape that changes with the movement of the sun. There will always be something beautiful and magical to capture your attention, especially at sunset hour.
